On March 22, the world turns its attention to two of the most significant environmental events of the year – World Water Day and Earth Hour. These two initiatives remind us of the close relationship between people and nature, and how important it is to protect our shared natural resources.
World Water Day – “Water for Peace”
The theme of World Water Day in 2025 is “Water for Peace.” Clean water is not only essential for life and health, but also a key factor in stability, economic development, and cooperation among nations. Sustainable water management builds trust, prevents conflict, and lays the foundation for long-term peace.
For the Via Pontica Foundation, the protection of water resources – especially in sensitive ecosystems such as coastal areas, wetlands, and lakes – is a top priority. We work to preserve biodiversity and promote the sustainable use of water through educational and conservation initiatives.
Earth Hour – A Symbolic Gesture with Real Meaning
On the same day, at 8:30 PM local time, millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour in solidarity with nature. Earth Hour, organized by WWF, is a global campaign that shows each of us can be part of the solution.
Though symbolic, this act sends a powerful message: change begins with us – through conscious choices, small daily actions, and a commitment to protecting our planet.
What can we do?
-
Save water in our daily lives
-
Support sustainable agriculture and eco-friendly practices
-
Participate in volunteer and educational initiatives
-
Be responsible consumers and active citizens
At the Via Pontica Foundation, we believe that every drop of water, every switched-off light, and every action in support of nature matters. Let us continue working together for a world where people and nature live in harmony.
