Via Pontica Foundation joins the SEAGROW project to develop regenerative seaweed farming in the Black Sea
The Via Pontica Foundation is proud to announce its participation inSEAGROW – Seaweed Ecosystem Aquaculture for GROWth and Sustainability, an innovative project funded by theEuropean Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF).
SEAGROW brings together research institutions, non-governmental organisations and business partners from across Europe to demonstrate howregenerative ocean farming of seaweedcan support the restoration of marine ecosystems, capture carbon and foster sustainable economic growth.
As theBlack Sea representative, the Via Pontica Foundation will lead the preparation of aregional study on the potential for developing seaweed farming, covering the analysis of environmental, regulatory and socio-economic factors.
The foundation will:

provide regional data and expertise forWork Package 2: Regenerative Ocean Farming;

take part inWork Package 4: Business Case Developmentthrough analysis of market and regulatory challenges;

supportWork Package 5: Communication and Disseminationby organising anational stakeholder meeting in Bulgaria.
SEAGROW connects European partners such asÓir Na Farraige, Trinity College Dublin, Sea Going GreenandAquaBioTech Groupin a shared mission — to extend regenerative practices from the Atlantic Ocean to the Black Sea and to promote asustainable, nature-positive blue economy.
This project has received funding from the European Union through the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF).
