Knowledge Exchange meeting of the MoreAdapt BSB project in Burgas strengthens cooperation on climate adaptation in the Black Sea region

On 2 April 2026 Burgas hosted a Knowledge Exchange meeting under the MoreAdapt BSB project, organised by the Via Pontica Foundation. The event brought together partners, experts and stakeholders from Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine to share knowledge, experience and good practice in climate change adaptation in the Black Sea region.

The meeting is part of the MoreAdapt BSB project, which aims to increase the region’s resilience to climate risks through innovative remote sensing technologies and nature-based solutions. Through transnational cooperation the project helps coastal and urban areas become less vulnerable and more adaptable to climate change.

The programme included presentations, expert discussions and interactive sessions on methodologies for assessing vulnerability and resilience through remote sensing, and on integrating nature-based solutions into local and regional planning.

Particular emphasis fell on the link between research, policy and practical application. Representatives of municipalities and partner organisations shared real examples and experience, showing how climate data and environmental monitoring can support decision-making and strategic planning.

Interactive discussions, including sessions such as “From data to decision-making” and a brainstorming session on nature-based measures, encouraged active participation and cooperation. They underlined the importance of turning scientific knowledge into practical solutions and policies that work at local and regional level.

The event reinforced the importance of cross-border cooperation in addressing the shared challenges of climate change in the Black Sea region. Bringing together a diverse set of stakeholders built mutual understanding and laid the groundwork for future cooperation.

As part of the project’s communication and dissemination strategy, events of this kind play a key role in raising awareness, engaging stakeholders and disseminating the project’s results.

MoreAdapt BSB continues to develop innovative tools, restore green spaces and support climate adaptation planning, with the goal of building more resilient coastal and urban environments.
